Burger Joint Smashes Way to Pelham Manor

The Smashburger is opening a new franchise at the Post Road Plaza in Pelham Manor.

Smashburger, a chain of ‘fast casual’ burger restaurants, is opening at the Post Road Plaza in Pelham Manor.

The restaurant will be operated at the 2,300-square-foot space where the old OTB was located. Post Road Plaza officials said they reached an agreement with Smashburger officials a few months ago.

Franchisees for the Pelham Manor Smashburger have yet to comment on their plans for the restaurant.

Here’s a snippet of a press release sent sent by Pelham Manor Charter Realty & Development, the owners of the Post Road Plaza: “Smashburger has over 143 locations throughout 25 states. The company has been recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Most Promising Companies. Smashburger’s menu focuses primarily on burgers, but also includes fresh salads, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, Haagen-Daz milk shakes and beer and wine.”

The first Smashburger opened in Denver five years ago. The company’s founder, Tom Ryan, was a product and marketing man who has made a name for himself helping to create food items like the  Stuffed Crust Pizza and Lovers™ line at Pizza Hut; McGriddles, Big ‘n Tasty, Dollar Menu, and Fruit and Yogurt Parfaits at McDonald’s; and Steakhouse Beef Dip, Prime Rib and Sammies at Quiznos.

The franchise currently has 151 restaurants in 25 states, including New York and New Jersey.
