Pelham Police Blotter

Here are some the cases reported by the Pelham Manor police department:

Larceny

A man residing on the 400 block of Esplanade reported on September 27 that a package of t-shirts he ordered online were never delivered. The company said the items were delivered to the residence and signed for on September 12, 2012.

Fraud 

A Mt Vernon contractor reported on Sept. 27 that he did paving work for a Pelham Manor business on Pelhamdale Ave. in August. The contractor received a check for $1,000 that was returned unpaid by the bank. The contractor has tried several times to get payment for his labor, but says he has not been compensated. Pelham Manor police, after consulting the Office of the Assistant District Attorney in Mt Vernon, referred the man to file his complaint in Mt. Vernon where he is located or in Eastchester which is the location of the bank that issued the unpaid check.

Suspicious Person

On Sept. 27 a Carol Place resident reported two men who claimed to be plumbers looking for an address near Carol Place and Iden Ave around 3:01 p.m. Neither of the men were around when police checked the call.

Burglary

A man reports discovering a burglary to his property in the 4300 block of Boston Post Rd. that occurred between 2:00 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 27. While investigating a loss of water at an adjacent property he owned, the man discovered a broken glass door and flooded water extending outside the property. When he checked closely, the man discovered a copper water meter had been stolen from the basement. This was the second water meter he had recently replaced at the property.

Obstruction 

Police responded to a report of a large fire near the Fulton Ave Bridge around 7 p.m. on Sept. 27. When officers arrived with Pelham Manor Fire Department they discovered garbage, cardboard and wood being burned in a large fire behind a business on Canal Rd.

When police questioned a man near the fire, he said his boss directed him to get rid of the items by burning them. The man's employer came over to where police were questioning the employee and began speaking to him in a language other than English. Police report the man seemed "nervous" and "afraid" of his employer. 

When police approached the employer, he first ignored them and then told them to leave. At some point, police report Nezar K. Saleh, of Mt. Vernon, pushed one of the police officers as he told them to leave. At that time, the officer handcuffed and arrested Saleh, who was later released on $250 bail. He is due in court on October 11.

Fire

Pelham Manor Fire department responded to a call at a Shore View Circle residence about an extinguished oven fire around 5 p.m. on Sept. 24.
