Assumption of the Virgin, Street Festival, Girl Movie

Here's what to know and where to go in and around Pelham for Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013:

  • Thursday is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation for Roman Catholics. St. Catharine Church, 25 Second Ave. has Masses at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Holy days, according to the parish website. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 559 Pelham Manor Rd. has Masses at 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., according to last Sunday's church bulletin.
  • The recent American Girl Doll Movie, “Saige Paints the Sky,” will be shown at the Bronxville Library at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The movie centers on nine-year-old Saige, a girl with a talent for art, and passionate about horses. Before her new school year Sage finds out that her favorite art class has been cut.   • Head over to Getty Square in Yonkers on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for St. John’s Farmers and Flea Market. Fresh farm produce, thrift shop, refreshments, flea market and fresh bread will be available to you. The event will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 1 Hudson Street in Yonkers.
  • Westchester County’s largest traditional Italian street festival, the Peekskill Italian Feast begins this Friday. The fourth annual three day event will run from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.  and will take place on Brown Street, Division Street and Park Street in Peekskill. This free, family friendly event has attracted 25,000 people annually. Everybody is Italian for these three days!
  • The Westchester County Health Department is offering free immunizations for children returning to school. The shots are offered by appointment during back-to-school clinics for ages 1 through 18 who are uninsured or have insurance that does not cover immunizations. Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis through Sept. 24. Call 914-813-5000 to schedule.
