PELHAM ROWERS EXCEL ON AND OFF THE WATER!

Glen Island, NY—The New York State Scholastic Rowing Association has announced that the Pelham Community Rowing Association (PCRA) has qualified as a scholar-athlete team for the ninth consecutive season.  Rowers must be in grades 10-12 and maintain a GPA of 90% or better for the season.  PCRA has proudly held this distinction since the commendation was begun in 2009.

Additionally, four PCRA athletes were invited to train as part of the United States Junior National Team Winter High Performance training camps earlier this year. Attending the California camps were team captains Christian Kelling (Pelham), Liliane Lindsay (Harrison) and Julia Sesler (Bronxville). Rounding out the four was Ellie Sawyer (Larchmont).

“We are extremely proud of our team’s commitment to both books and boats,” commented Paisley Kelling, PCRA’s Board President.  “We try to remind our rowers that the word ‘scholar’ comes first in the term ‘scholar-athlete’ for a reason, and that this emphasis will continue throughout their collegiate experiences.”   “There are many ways to help one’s team win, and only some of them occur on the water,” added Program Director and Head Coach, Guy Monseair.  Monseair is extremely proud of the many contributions his rowers make to the high standards he sets, as well as the role models the varsity rowers grow into for the younger members of their team.

Thus far, PCRA seniors have received early decision acceptances from Bates College, Boston University, Ithaca College, Mercyhurst University, University of Michigan, New York University, University of Pennsylvania, William Smith College and Yale University.
