5 Things: Art Exhibit, Stella & Dot Opportunity Meeting, and the Start of a New Month

Five things to know for Monday, August 1.

1. It's August!

That means one more month before September! Get a head start on your back-to-school shopping. Head over to BJ’s in Pelham for back-to-school supplies. College students- don’t forget the necessities:

-bed comforter (check the size of your bed!)

2. View Herbie Rides Again at New Rochelle Library

It’s time to appreciate another classic, and for free! New Rochelle Public Library’s screening of this week is Herbie Rides Again, released in 1974. The screening will take place in the Ossie Davis Theatre, at the New Rochelle Public Library, tonight at 6p.m. The movie stars Helen Hayes and Ken Berry and tells the adventure of a heroic Volkswagen Beetle who helps an old lady protect her home from a cruel property developer.   

3. Get inspired by Dani Jackson’s “Perspectives of Light and Dark” 

Artists and art enthusiasts should make the trip to Irvington today for the opening of Dani Jackson’s photography exhibit. A series of unique portraits of lighthouses will be on display at the Martucci Gallery at the Irvington Public Library from today until August 30.  

4. Meet Stella & Dot!

Are you a fashion-obsessed woman who’s always dreamed of launching your own career in your free time? Stella & Dot-Independent Stylist Annemaria Garcia knows all the tips, and is willing to share. Stella & Dot has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times and is coming to Pelham tonight. Stella & Dot specializes in organizing easy-to-manage entrepreneurial opportunities for women. Go to  from 7:30p.m. to 9p.m. for a local opportunity meeting to get tips on how busy woman can start a part or full time career as a Stylist without even leaving her own home.

5. Go Swimming. 

It’s going to be hot again. So, if none of these events interest you, go find a pool, lake, or beach (or take a cold shower). The weather forecast says partly sunny, highs around 90 degrees during the day. At night, it should drop to around 70, and there will be a 30 precent chance of rain.
