5 Things: BMW Guggenheim Lab Opening, Amazing Animals Program And Beatles Tribute

Five things to know for Wednesday, Aug. 3.

1. Strawberry Fields Forever 

Well, not forever... for free! Make the trip to the Veterans Memorial Park, between Ellsworth and  in the Bronx for the next performance in - a Beatles tribute band called Strawberry Fields. It’s Wednesday. That means the in White Plains will be open from 8a.m. to 5p.m., providing you with delicious baked goods, fresh produce, jam- it’s an foodie’s heaven.

Bring your kids to the New Rochelle Public Library for the . Real live reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and small mammals will be at the library for the kids to meet. The kids will also hear the true stories of adults who have spent time with bigger animals, like Grizzly Bears and Grey Wolves, in the wild. It should be a great hands-on learning experience.

4. BMW Guggenheim Lab Opens 

Described as “A mixture between an urban think-tank, a community center, and a gathering space” by Assistant Curator Maria Nicanor, the BMW Guggenheim Lab is a laboratory full of specialists from many different disciplines, and from all over the world, who come together to find solutions for current urban problems.

The lab is officially open today. Free programs, like the very first, Confronting Comfort, are open to the public. The public is encouraged to give feedback, to be their “lab partners”, says Journalist and Urban Experimentalist Charles Montgomery. Watch the video here.   

5. Today in History 

On August 3, 1988, Skip Storch swam 246 km of the Hudson River all the way from Albany to NYC. Who is Storch? Storch is an ultra-marathon swimmer from Nyack, NY. He has broken records, even while suffering from sarcoidosis, a lung disease. Storch will soon be singing autographs at Germonds Pool in New City, NY for the August 14 Swim Across America race to benefit United Hospice of Rockland.
