5 Things for the Week Ahead: Indian Point Report, Eagles and Films

Here are a few of the activities taking place in the week of Jan. 30, 2012.

 

1.) Learn about the impact the Indian Point Nuclear Facility has on the local drinking supply when Environment New York and Riverkeeper 1 p.m. Tuesday at Peekskill Landing Park in Peekskill. The report will show the number of people whose drinking water would be contaminated if radiation escaped to various distances from Indian Point.

2.) Curious about some of the issues facing teens today? Then check out “Talk and Text Family Night” at 6:30 p.m. inside the , located at 175 Wolfs Ln. in Pelham. The event, which is presented by the and the Junior League of Pelham, will feature a screening of the documentary “American Teen.” The documentary follows the lives of high school students and the pressures they face. The event will also include an interactive discussion with Cheryl Bobe, the director of the Pelham Guidance Council. Moviegoers will be encouraged to text in comments throughout the film, which will be discussed during a question and answer session with Bobe.

3.) Cotton comes to the Thursday. The library is having a screening of the Ossie Davis directed film, “Cotton Comes to Harlem,” in the very theater named after him at 7 p.m. The library is located at 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle, NY. Call (914) 632-7878 or go here for more information.

4.) Newberry Award winners Rebecca Stead and Patricia Reilly Giff will be at the , located at 1997 Palmer Ave. in Larchmont, Friday from the public. 5.) Ever regret not being able to catch an eagle’s show? Then head down to the , located at 1600 Spring Valley Rd in Ossining, at 9 a.m. Saturday for the . These bald eagles won’t belt out a rendition of “Take it Easy,” but they are still captivating in their own way. The event will feature a variety of fun activities and events celebrating the bald eagle population in the Hudson Valley. Activities include guided and independent eagle viewing, storytelling and children's programs and activities. Seats in the Eagle Theatre are $5 in advance or $10 at the door.
