Frying Chicken to Perfection, Restoring Lobbies and Tenured Teachers

The weekend may be far off, but 5 Things will give you a bit of a pick-me-up.

Cheer on Local Superstars
The Heat/Mavericks competition may have you riveted, but don’t let that keep you from doting on the local superstars. At 7 p.m., PMHS athletes get honored at the Sports Awards Booster Club Dinner at Lake Isle.

Cook the Perfect Summer Meal
Pelham Manor Fairway’s top chefs demonstrate the art of prepping the perfect summer meal--fried chicken, potato salad, coleslaw and strawberry rhubarb cobbler--at 7 p.m. The $30 cost gets you the demo, a prix fixe dinner and recipe cards. Reserve your spot by calling 914 712 6011.

Clap with Colonial
It’s the Colonial School kids’ turn to kick off the morning with a tune. Starting at 9:15 a.m. the band and orchestra will show off what they’ve been working on all year in the gym.

Say Goodbye to the old PMHS Lobby
Thanks to the Preservation Society and other fundraising initiatives, Pelham Memorial High School’s lobby will get reconstructed this summer, the Board of Education announced on Monday night. Among the many renovations, the leaky steam pipes will get fixed, the floors will get spruced up and the windows will get restored. When all is said and done, it will look something like a college lecture hall, according to Robert Eicher, President of the BOE.

Meet the Tenured Teachers
Eleven Pelham teachers--from the elementary, middle and high schools--were awarded tenure on Monday night at the Board of Education meeting. Check back tomorrow morning when we post a short bio about the instructors who have been granted this honor and what makes their teaching styles distinct.
