Get Out: Boxing, Blood Drives and Musicals

The weekend is almost here, and we have a jam-packed plan for how to spend your well-earned days off

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

1. GOLDEN GLOVES BOXING EVENT

Where/When: Yonkers Raceway, Friday 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: You don’t want to miss the historic New York Daily News' Golden Gloves 2011 semi-finals boxing tournament, which has produced such legendary boxers as Sugar Ray Robinson and Emile Griffith. Celebrating its 84th year, this knock-out event will be hosted by Empire City Casino President Timothy J. Rooney and Daily News Senior Vice President John Campi.

2. MUSIC BY ZEV

Where/When: Bakery at 4 Corners, Friday 4:15 p.m.

Why Go: Grab the rugrats, sit back and relax to some cool-kid friendly beats while sipping a latté-or hot chocolate at this favorite local hang-out. This exciting and interactive show is perfect for you and the kids who will be jumping, dancing, and interacting with others.

3. CLICK CLACK MOO

Where/When: Emelin Theatre, Saturday 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: Perfect for the kids, and kids-at heart, this hilarious musical comedy follows Farmer Brown, his friends, and the town’s cows as they protest their work conditions-perfect for your little advocate at heart. Based on the novel by Doreen Cronin and Betsey Lewin, this classic story will be a hit with the whole family.

4. BLOOD DRIVE

Where/When: Pelham Manor Fire Department, Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: Grab a friend and give back to the community in an easy way to support the Sound Shore Medical Center. Plus, afterwards, you have the perfect excuse to nosh on cookies, donuts, and soda. Donors must be 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds.

5. AMERICAN JEWRY: A HISTORICAL AND LITERARY PERSPECTIVE LECTURE

 Where/When: Pelham Jewish Center, Sunday 10 a.m.

Why Go: Join lecturer Gloria Goldreich (Horowitz) in this second-part series on the writings of Philip Roth, Herman Wouk, and Meyer Levin.
