Get Out: Concerts, Volunteering and Workshops

The weekend is almost here and so is our hand-picked guide on how to maximize your days off.

1. THE SILKIE

Where/When: Van Nest Library, Friday 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: This whimsical play uses puppetry and songs to tell the tale of a sea creature with mystical powers. Based on a Celtic folktale, this performance of magic and adventure is perfect for kids ages 5-12.

Pricing: Free. Seats are on a first-come, first-served basis, so get there early.

2. BIJOUX BAND

Where/When: Johnny’s on 5th, Friday 9 p.m.

Why Go: Relive the 60s, 70s, and 80s with this old-school cover band at one of our favorite local hangouts. While you're there, check out the 10-inch thin-crust brick oven pizza with a side of broccoli rabe and sausage or mesclun salad ($11.95)

3. VOLUNTEER GARDEN CLEAN-UP DAY

Where/When: Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, Saturday 10 a.m.

Why Go: Get your hands a little dirty, while giving back to the community as you help maintain the museum's garden and grounds. Breakfast is available, but volunteers are asked to bring gloves and wear sturdy shoes.

4. DIGITAL VIDEO WORKSHOP

Where/When: Pelham Art Center, Saturday 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: Learn the basics of digital video production during this introductory course with artist Scott Fitzgerald. People of all ages are encouraged to attend.

5. THE BARE BONES

Where/When: Greenburgh Nature Center, Sunday 2 p.m.

Why Go: Learn about animals by analyzing their bones with educator Greg Wechgelaer. Intended for ages 5 and up.

Pricing: Members $2, Non-member $6.
