Why Go: Choosing a pet is a big decision (and, let me tell you, a parrot, bunny, or snake can live a lot longer than you might expect). Learn all about pet choices, their life expectancy, how to care for them, meet some animals and ask the experts your pressing questions. Ages 8 and up.

Why Go: Kids can make a cute Valentine’s Day craft, and select a themed book to bring home. For children ages 4 and up.

Why Go: Don’t wait until the snow melts to plan for summer camp season! More than 45 directors from different summer programs will be on hand to help you and your child plan their summer fun. Both day camp and sleep away camp options will be represented. If you pre-register here, you’ll be eligible to win a ski trip to Vermont.

• The Winter Garden: Sweet Valentine’s Adventures for the Whole Family
Where/When: Saturday, Feb. 12 and 13 at The New York Botanical Garden. Museum hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Why Go: Kids learn all about where the chocolate comes from and explore this Valentine’s treat with all of their senses. Also, plant winter wheat to take home, count the rings of a tree, and head into the Discovery Center for hot cocoa.
Pricing: $4 child (2-12), $10 adult, children under 2 free.
