Hanging Flower Baskets Available from the Pelville Association

The deadline to sponsor a $25 hanging flower basket from the Pelville Association is April 20.

Wondering what to get mom for Mother’s Day?

Well, the  Pelville Association might have the perfect solution.

This month, the association's Beautification Committee has been asking people to hang along the light poles in Pelville. Pelville is defined as the neighborhood extending south from  Willow Avenue to the Pelham Train Station and the Hutchinson Parkway through Ninth Avenue.

The Village of Pelham used to sponsor the hanging of baskets along light poles in the community as a way to beautify the neighborhood, but stopped this year due to financial constraints.

“The flower basket program has been in existence in Pelham for years,” said Kate Collins-Novikov, who is helping to spearhead the effort. “This is the first year that the village has decided not to continue the program, and we just want to ensure that it continues.”

Novikov said the village has agreed to maintain the baskets once they are hanged.

Baskets cost $25 to sponsor and the deadline for registration is April 20. People can sponsor in the name of someone else and have that name displayed on a light pole along with the basket.

Collins-Novikov said the baskets will be place on the poles in time for Mother’s Day, which is May 13.

She is hopeful that the Pelville Association will get more than 100 sponsorships this year.

“I’d like to extend the program past Lincoln Avenue, Willow Avenue this year,” she said. “Historically, no plants or hanging baskets have ever been done in that part of town.”

Sponsorship forms can be picked up at DeCicco’s Market, the Pelham Metro-North Train Station, and Pelham Realty. They can also be downloaded from www.pelville.org or printed from the PDF to the right of this story.

All forms must be dropped off to The Pelville Association, P.O. Box 8002, Pelham, NY 10803 or dropped off at Pelham Realty April 20.
