Presidents Day Fast Facts

Find out how the holiday got started and what to expect around town.

Most businesses in Pelham are open today (we checked), so you can enjoy this snowy day off with shopping and dining. And while you kick back with family and friends, here are some fun facts about the holiday that you can interject.

Back in 1880, our government wanted to designate a day to honor George Washington. Feb. 22, which is our first president's birthdate, was chosen. Fast forward nearly 100 years and the holiday was shifted to the third Monday in February. Ironically, it always falls between Feb. 15 - 21, not the day Washington blew out his cake's candles.
