Rockland Locals Plan Nyack Sandy Relief Event

Their event is set for Dec. 16 in Nyack. There will be family activities, live music, vendors, cooking demos, Santa photos and more

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, as many return to their normal lives, many Rocklanders are still dealing with property damages to their homes. 

Lady About Town Productions and The Projects Film Company are planning an upcoming event to address the issue—Stand Together: The Rockland Disaster Relief Community Festival.

This collaborative arts-focused benefit will be held on Dec. 16 at 60 cedar hill ave in Nyack. 

  • 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. it's free. There will be a farmers market with local vendors, family activities, live music and cooking demonstrations
  • From 3 - 5 p.m. There's a charge if you want to take a picture with Santa
  • 5 p.m. - midnight there will be live music, food and drinks. The charge at the door is $5 if you come with a toy or food donation. If you come without a donation, it's $10 at the door. "There will be food all day and night provided by the 9W Market and Filling Station as well as a cash bar—craft beer and wine menu," Kahlea Baldwin said. "There will be several touring bands from Brooklyn and a few local acts as well. We also have a pretty awesome art show and raffle happening that includes prizes ranging from restaurant gift certificates to pricey espresso machines to gym memberships etc." 

Their objective is to bring the community together in an effort to fundraise a substantial donation for Habitat for Humanity of Rockland County with the intention to rebuild the homes of our friends and neighbors who were gravely affected by Hurricane Sandy as well as a toy and food drive for People to People.

Like many places in the Tri-State area, Rockland County took a devastating hit during the storm. Many households were completely destroyed and are in desperate need of immediate attention. 

During this event, they wish to highlight the talents of local and touring musicians, visual and performance artists who are all donating their time and work as a means to draw attraction and fundraise. A diverse program has been curated for the appreciation and entertainment of our donors and guests. Contributing local businesses, restaurants and non-profit organizations will be featured to our attendees as an integral component of this event. Their contribution is imperative to the success of our efforts to aid the many that need it.

"All bands are pretty popular and were in the Rolling Stones and NPR. They are donating their time," said Alycea Ench, Executive Event Producer. "We have several vendors signed up already and the Peak is going to be broadcasting the event live."

"We have secured the spot, have a sponsorship from Starbucks - they are donating an espresso machine to raffle and coffee to sell at the event all proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity," said Ench.
