Volunteer Awards, Reflective Street Signs by 2018 and the Huguenot Egg Hunt

It's OK if you unplugged from the computer over the weekend. We have a brief roundup of what went down in Pelham from Friday through Sunday.

Despite the rain, we had a pretty jam-packed weekend here in Pelham. In case you were out and about and unplugged from your computer, here are the top five news stories you won’t want to have missed:

The Volunteer Center of United Way honored eight Westchester volunteers, and two Pelhamites each took home an award. Missy Frank teaches kids in Mount Vernon how to incorporate healthful foods into their diets and wrote “Miss Missy’s Recipe Book,” to help guide them outside of class. Missy Palmisciano was recognized for having founded , an organization that rescues excess food from schools, restaurants, supermarkets and bagel stores and delivers it to local hunger relief programs.

By 2018—from the biggest states to the smallest villages—all road signs have to be sufficiently reflective in order to aid seniors and people driving at night.

Local kids, ages 16 months and up, flocked to Huguenot Memorial Church on Saturday to hunt for Easter eggs, but most had their eye on the golden prize.

Marianne Gilland, a Pelham resident for 25 years, said on Friday that she’s running for one of two available seats on the Board of Education. Candidates have until 5 p.m. today to submit their 27 signatures from local voters. Patch is getting the scoop on all candidates, so make sure to check back for our complete run down.
