Last Chance in Pelham: Art Grant Workshop; Malle Film to be Screened at Picture House

Here are some events you probably want to know about this week.

Workshop Scheduled Wednesday for Arts Grant

ArtsWestchester has scheduled a workshop on applying for t at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug 15, inside the Mount Vernon Library located 28 South First Avenue, Mount Vernon.

The Arts Alive Grant is designed to help small, grassroots Westchester based organizations and artists present programs and exhibitions that are accessible to a wide community audience. Examples of past Arts Alive grantees have included: artworkshops for underserved communities throughout Westchester, an artist lead community project creating site specific ceramic planters, affordable performances of classic opera, a theatre troupes travelling performances of Shakespeare, and ethnic festivals at Kenisco Dam.

While grants of up to $5,000 are available, the average grant is approximately $1,000. 

The deadline for the grant applications is Sept. 14. Additional information and downloadable application for the grant program is available at www.artsw.org/artsalive.

Film Screenings scheduled at the Picture House

The in Pelham is screening the French film "Murmur of the Heart" at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19.

The film was directed by the late Louis Malle and released in 1971.  

"Louis Malle's critically acclaimed Murmur of the Heart gracefully gracefully combines elements of comedy drama and autobiography in a candid portrait of a precocious adolescent boy's sexual maturation," according to the description given by the Picture House.

The theater is also showing the movie "Peace, Love & Misunderstanding" this week, with the last showing scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Aug. 16. The film is directed by two-time Academy Award nominee Bruce Beresford and stars  Jane Fonda, Catherine Keener, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Elizabeth Olsen, Nat Wolff, Marissa O'Donnell, Chace Crawford, Kyle MacLachlan and Rosanna Arquette.

Here's a description of the movie from IFC Fillms: For uptight Manhattan lawyer Diane (Oscar-nominee Catherine Keener), crazy means driving her teenage son Jake (Nat Wolff) and daughter Zoe (Elizabeth Olsen) to Woodstock to visit their grandmother Grace (Fonda). The crazy part is that the kids have never met Grace. In fact, Diane hasn't spoken to her mother in twenty years.
