Patch Spring Photography Contest

Here's your chance to show Pelham how much of an artist you really are.

If you haven’t noticed, I am quite the photography buff. My first job was mixing chemicals for the Pelham Art Center photography…back when they had a darkroom (man, I’m getting old). I love pictures so incredibly much. I am a full-fledged supporter of the digital photography revolution. The quality of digital photography has grown so fast and strong that even the staunchest of naysayers cannot argue that when armed with a digital camera; anyone can be an artist.

We at Patch want to celebrate the artist within all of us. So, starting today and ending May 23rd, Patch will be holding our very own first spring photography contest. To participate in the contest add one (JUST ONE) photo to the “add your photos and videos” section of the page. You must have a Patch account to be able to submit.

Here is how the contest works: when you submit your photo you must add a title. For example, my submission will be called “Recent Bloom at Bartow”. Throughout the week, people will comment on the photos referring to the photo by the name provided by the artist. On Monday the 23rd, the three pictures with the most comments will be brought into Patch HQ to be viewed by the executive council of judges. The top dog will be awarded a very awesome prize and the runner up will be awarded a just as awesome prize, but not so cool as to take away from the ego of the winner.

The parameters for the picture are pretty simple. The photo must relate to spring. Anything “spring” can count, whether it is flowers, BBQs, baseball games, lawnmowers, dogs shedding, etc. Photographers should keep in mind the use of creative composition, perspective, and the use of depth of field.
