A sold-out crowd of 230 guests salsa-danced, dined and celebrated their way last month through "Havana Nights," the Pelham Art Center 37th annual spring benefit.

The event, which took place March 31 at the newly renovated Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Courses, featured Jose Conde and his Ola Fresca Band, whose intoxicating Afro-Caribbean sounds of Cuba brought out guests' inner Latin rhythm.

Guests were greeted at the entrance by the sight of a gleaming black 1958 Pontiac. Split Rock’s striking deco theme was a perfect setting for the Old Havana theme, and the handsome dining room was a tropical paradise of tall palm fronds decorating each table.  The sizzling live and silent auction items included lively bidding for the highly sought-after official limited edition NFL Super Bowl XLVI football signed by NY Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

"I want to thank everyone who came out to support Pelham Art Center and made this evening such a success," said Executive Director Lynn Honeysett. “You are helping to make Pelham an arts destination, with free high-level exhibitions and workshops, available to everyone.”

This year's dazzling event was skillfully co-chaired by Annette Candido and Lorraine Hale Doherty, and is the Pelham Art Center's major fundraiser. It benefits the art programs serving more than 16,000 adults and children in Westchester County and parts of the Bronx with high quality free public art programs, exhibitions and events, and a wide range of affordable art classes for children, youth and adults.

The Art Center also provides access to the arts to children, adults and families that might otherwise not participate because of challenges due to finances, location or disabilities. Pelham Art Center is committed to the belief that the public’s access and participation in the arts strengthens communities and fosters life-long engagement in the arts.
