Pelham Picture House's Big Night

The Picture House's Harold Lloyd Awards and the inaugural Next Generation Film Award will be Presented During the upcoming event.

Get ready for The Pelham Picture House's "Big Night" event. At the special gathering, the Picture House's prestigious Harold Lloyd Awards will be presented. Here are the details from the Picture House:

The Picture House Regional Film Center announces its Big Night: The Picture House Spring Gala, at the Westchester Hilton on Saturday April 20, 2013. The centerpiece of the Gala will be the presentation of The Picture House’s Harold Lloyd Awards and the inaugural Next Generation Film Award.

- Isabella Rossellini, star of such films as White Nights, Blue Velvet and Big Night will receive the 2013 Harold Lloyd Industry Distinction Award. She is a model, actress, innovative film-maker, producer, entrepreneur, author and daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini.

- Benh Zeitlin, director of the Academy Award nominated film, Beasts of the Southern Wild, will receive the Next Generation Film Award, given to a filmmaker who, through their work, characterizes the future of the art of film.

- Andrew Jarecki, best known for producing and directing the Academy Award nominated Capturing the Friedmans will receive the Harold Lloyd Film Visionary Award. He also directed the 2010 film All Good Things and has made a number of acclaimed short films. He was also the co-founder of Moviefone.

- Tom Peer a founder of The Picture House, member of the board of directors, and Pelham resident, will receive the Harold Lloyd Commitment to Community Award. He was instrumental in identifying The Picture House as an under-utilized resource which could deliver culture, film education, economic revitalization, and a restored historic building to the community. He was a significant part of the team who led the effort to save and restore the historic 1921 theater.

         

“We’ve gathered an impressive and accomplished group of honorees for our Big Night Gala,” says Ann Sorice, the Gala Chair. “Like The Picture House, they are visionary leaders in the film world, both in terms of their creative accomplishments and their support for independent films.”

With a distinct and vibrant history, The Picture House, located in Pelham, NY has been a fixture of the landscape of Southern Westchester for over 90 years. Since restoring and re-opening the theater in 2011, The Picture House Regional Film Center, has become the region’s hub for the best in new, independent and classic cinema, offering film students of all ages the opportunity to learn about the art, science, and business of film. Fundraising events such as the Big Night Spring Gala allow The Picture House to present quality films in a renovated 1921 landmark theater with state of the art technology and to deliver valuable educational programs.

“The Gala is an opportunity for us to thank the region for rallying in support of an iconic film house that is a treasured resource for all of southern Westchester County,” says John Calvelli, Chair of the Board of Directors for The Picture House. “”Now it’s time to take it to the next stage, so we can continue to offer innovative films and educational programming and present the best movies in the industry using the latest technology.”

The Picture House’s Harold Lloyd Awards are named after Harold Lloyd, one of the most popular and influential film comedians of the silent film era. He is best known for entrepreneurial spirit of 1920s America and for playing a charming bespectacled character who exemplified the independent and who exemplified the independent and entrepreneurial spirit of 1920s America.

Cocktails and a Silent Auction will be followed by dinner and presentation of the 2013 Harold Lloyd Awards and the Next Generation Film Award. This year’s Gala Chair is Board Member and Pelham resident Ann Sorice and Honorary Co-Chairs are Kathleen Corton, Eugene Jarecki and Matthew Modine. The evening’s Master of Ceremonies will be actor and former Pelham resident Neal Huff. The evening will also include dancing to the Nat Osborn Band, and a Live Auction.
