Tastings VIII

The Rotary Club will host its annual Tastings event on October 14th from 4-7PM at the NYAC in Pelham Manor.  Tastings VIII will feature the premier menu offerings of over 15 great local restaurants, wines selected and poured by Joe LaRocca of Pelham Manor’s French Wine Shop, live music from the Pelham Jazz Ensemble, and a silent auction full of surprises. Tastings VIII, with Presenting Sponsor Sound Shore MedicalCenter, will raise funds to provide lifesaving heart surgery for children who live in developing countries where the specialized care they need is not available.  Working closely with Gift of Life International, Pelham’s Rotary Club brings children, each accompanied by a parent, to New York; houses them in a sponsor home in Pelham; and underwritesmajor costs associated with their medical care. Since the program came to Pelham in 2005, Tastings events have raised nearly $200,000 and supported 9 children. Later this fall a 10th child, 7 years old from Nigeria, will arrive at her host’s home in Pelham and prepare for heart surgery at Westchester Medical Center. In the last two years the proceeds from Tastings events have also funded medical missions to Nicaragua and El Salvador, where hospital facilities have been outfitted and doctorstrained, so that this vital pediatric cardiac care can be given to many more children, more efficiently and closer to home. This year, with great admiration and appreciation, the Clubwill honor Stiefvater Real Estate at Tastings VIII. Principals Marilyn and Scott Stiefvater have dedicated their professional and personal lives to Pelham: sponsoring teams, donating to Pelham’s many important causes, andtaking a leading role in the Rotary Club’s major fund raising efforts.  As it has for many years, Stiefvater RealEstate will be a sponsor of the event. Sound Shore Medical Center’s President & CEO John R.Spicer distinguishes Tastings VIII by serving as Honorary Chair.  Mr. Spicer, a long time Pelham resident, hasled the expansion of the award-winning Sound Shore Medical Center for nearly 25 years. His dedication to community-based healthcare benefits all the residentsof Southern Westchester.  The Rotary Club of the Pelhams is indebted to Sound Shore Medical Center for its generoussupport as Presenting Sponsor of Tastings VIII.
