Pelham Children Entertain Extended Care Residents With Dance

Residents of the Schaffer Extended Care Center on the Sound Shore Medical Center campus in New Rochelle were treated to an exhibit of ballroom dancing recently.

The dancers were fifth-grade students from Pelham's Hutchinson Elementary School Dance Team.

Sound Shore spokeswoman Trish Feathers said the young dancers displayed prowess in the merengue, fox trot, tango and swing.

"In addition to enjoying the performance, the residents delighted in interacting with the students," she said. "No doubt many of them were reminded of their own prowess on the dance floor—not that many years ago."

Feathers said the Department of Recreation Therapy staff with the school and group's instructor, Jackie Soccodato, to bring the 10- and 11-year-olds to the center.
