Broadway review: ‘Mary Poppins,’ ending March 3, a must-see, exceptional show

BROADWAY — I went to see “Mary Poppins” on the day of the Super Bowl. The show, which ends on March 3, is based on the books. The books and performance are about a magical nanny who arrives at the home of the Banks.

The nanny’s name is Mary Poppins. The family is a having a hard time finding the perfect nanny for the kids, Jane and Micheal. The family is slowly breaking apart, and nobody knows what to do about it. Mr. Bank spends way too much time on his work and doesn’t appreciate his family’s help. He is stubborn and cross because he was raised by Miss. Andrews, the meanest nanny anyone could ever have. The mom doesn’t bother to spend time with her kids.

Mary Poppins takes Jane and Micheal through many adventures with her friend Bert, who also has magic powers. The show is about two hours long and is an amazing sight throughout. Mary Poppins flys around the theater (with wires, but you can’t actually see them). Bert walks upside down on the ceiling. The songs and dancing were really fantastic.

Another great thing about the show is the sets. The Banks’s house looked exactly like a regular house looks like on the inside. If the setting took place outside, suddenly trees would appear, faster than the blink of an eye. The props were colorful. I also enjoyed watching the actors and actresses say funny things that would keep me laughing.

In the show, there was an act 1 and an act 2. In between, there was an intermission, which was about 15 minutes. There was a very long line for the bathrooms during intermission. You would think that because of the Super Bowl the theater would be practically empty. But it was pretty full!

The show was a musical, so many songs were sung by the cast. The songs that are in the movie “Mary Poppins” are not all played at the performance. The ones that are sung are “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Feed the Birds,” “Jolly Holiday,” “A Spoon Full of Sugar, “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” “Chim Chim Cheree” and “Practically Perfect.”

It really is a must-see, exceptional show that anyone of any age should watch with the whole family. If you go see it, I hope you enjoy it. Now go get those tickets before it’s too late.
