COLONIAL SCHOOL — What is pi, and not the pie you eat, but the symbol pi? You have probably not heard of pi as a part of math just as a yummy thing to eat.
Pi Day is March 14 and is celebrated by math enthusiasts around the world. Pi Day even has a website. Some classes at Colonial will be celebrating it.
According to the Pi Day website, “Pi is an irrational and transcendental number, meaning it will continue infinitely without repeating.” March 14 is Pi Day because the date — 3/14 — is the same as the first three digits of pi — 3.14
Class 4C will be eating round food such as pie and handing out to everyone in the building a round snack the PTA bought. All students in 4C will be wearing something with a circle on it. The class will also read a book about pi, make a pi chain with different colors and sing a song about pi.
“Everyone’s birthday eventually falls on a pi,” said Mrs. Linda Carlson, a fourth grade teacher.
