Students overwhelmingly choose Lunch with Lou over Chartwells in Colonial Times poll

COLONIAL GYM — Students surveyed about whether they liked Chartwells or Lunch with Lou, the previous meal provider, voted 131 in favor of Lunch with Lou and one for Chartwells.

The Colonial Times visited classrooms, lunch tables and recess, and double-checked if people agreed with their votes. Some voted for Chartwells and then changed their opinion.

In an interview, Dr. Dennis Lauro, the superintendent of schools, said the school district is following state regulations in using Chartwells. Because the district cannot change the state rules, Dr. Lauro explained, it cannot switch back to Lunch with Lou.

But he said students could suggest menu changes in student government, as long as the menu ideas are reasonable.

Ryan Gregware, 5G, said he was not surprised because he thinks everything is unhealthy at Chartwells. The main foods Gregware didn’t like were the chicken nuggets and the pancakes in a bag. He said the pizza is the best thing. (The pizza comes from Pelham Pizzeria.)

When asked, about the vote, Mrs. Nancy Baird first laughed, then said Lunch with Lou was better by far.

Some things survey respondents liked about Lunch with Lou’s food was its taste and healthiness. Also, they noted they got to go online and schedule what days you ate so it was a better system, instead of staying in a line for 10 minutes, or on pizza days, for 20 minutes.
