COLONIAL GYM — On Dec. 11, the fourth and fifth grade students successfully performed at the annual winter concert held here. Parents, grandparents and guardians gathered to watch the kids play and sing at this exciting school event.

The one hour program covered a wide range of music, including orchestra, band and chorus. All the students were excited to perform. A few, including this reporter, were a bit nervous too.

The concert opened with the welcome note from Principal Mrs Wilson, who said, "The students and teachers have put in a lot of hard work, and I'm proud of that."

The fourth-fifth grade orchestra performed three musical pieces under the direction of Ms Marcia Bean. The first piece, "Pink Tango" by Patricia Pinkston and Miltona Moore, was wonderfully played by the students. It was followed by "La Rejouissance," a classical rejoicing piece originally played to celebrate the end of a war. The third musical piece, "Skater's Waltz," a musical description of ice skating where one section of the orchestra smoothly skates and the other section wobbles around, was able to capture the winter mood. The job was well done by all the violinists, violists, cellists and bassists.

The orchestra performance was followed by the fifth grade band ensemble with great  renditions of "Penguin Promenade" and "Toboggan Run" under the direction of Mr. Madison Martineau, our new band teacher.

The choruses of the fourth and fifth graders under the direction of Mr. Rami Vamos and Mrs. Pamela Brinkman was fantastic. The fourth graders sang the famous Hanukkah song "The Dreidel Blues," followed by "This Friendly World" and the classic "Ode to Joy." The fifth graders sang a few holiday songs, including "Skating and Sleighing," "Dona Nobis Pacem" and "Like Diamonds In The Night." Afterwards, the fourth and fifth graders collectively sang two songs: "Empathy and Sympathy" and "Walking in a Winter Wonderland."

The concert concluded with Mrs. Wilson's closing remark. She thanked all the parents for coming and making the event successful.

One parents said, "It was an impressive performance. All the musical renditions were melodious, well-paced and well-coordinated. The amazing performances reflect the hard work put in by the students and their teachers during regular classes and early morning rehearsals. I am looking forward to attending the spring concert."
