The Grill, a New Outdoors Dining Destination, Opens on Friday at the Bedford Post Inn

A new al fresco dining destination called the Grill bows in at the Bedford Post Inn tomorrow, Friday, July 11, on a patio in back of the Barn. It will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 10 p.m., weather permitting, and will offer a menu differing completely from the Barn's menu. The Barn has its own outside seating.

[The Barn and the Grill will be joined by a flagship Italian restaurant called "Campagna at the Bedford Post Inn," probably in late August, 2014. Campagna is Italian for Countryside.]

The Grill's menu has both small plates and large plates and includes grilled oysters with bacon mignonette and toasted ciabatta, soft-shell crab, and Maine lobster with herb butter and charred lemon. A Chocolate Hazelnut Budino with caramelized banana and burnt marshmallow appears on the dessert list.

The kitchen is under the direction of Chef Michael White.

"The Grill has outside dining only; no reservations; walk-in-only," Katherine Teodosic, General Manager for the restaurant complex, said. "Guests who make a reservation at the Barn can move to the Grill depending on space availability," she pointed out, "but the reservation doesn't guarantee a spot at the Grill."

"We will be watching the weather closely and will not open if there is an impending storm or rain shower," Teodosic said, "There are occasionally 'freak showers' in the summer time, and in that case, we will do our best to accomodate everyone under our overhang or in the Barn loft."

What to expect if you dine at the Grill:

  • Table capacity. Tables at the Grill can seat two or four people and a communal table seats eight.
  • Shady seating location. Scattered umbrellas are located throughout the Grill.
  • Different menu from the Barn. Dishes can be ordered from the Grill menu only. (Barn menu is not available at Grill tables)
  • Outside bar and stools. Not yet available but planned for later in the season
  • Outside recorded music. Easy-to-listen-to recorded jazz played currently. Live music anticipated later in the season
  • Sample menu prices. Lamb skewers ($14), "White Label" burger ($19), grilled branzino ($28), prime ribeye ($41) and desserts ($10).
