Five things to know for July 27.

1. "Yogi Bear" at Glen Island Park

If you're looking for a family-friendly way to spend the evening, head over to Glen Island Park in New Rochelle to see the film "Yogi Bear" at 7 p.m. The film screening is just one of 10 Patch Picks for things to do in the Hudson Valley this week.

2. Hudson River Advisory

The Westchester County Health Department is still advising people to avoid contact with the Hudson River south of Hastings. The department has said people can use the river north of Hastings for recreation, but there are no restrictions on boating in the area. The advisory comes after untreated wastewater from a sewage plant in New York City discharged into the Hudson River last week.

3. Legislation to Promote Community-Supported Agriculture

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is sponsoring a bill that might gain traction among supporters of locally-grown food. The senator introduced legislation on Tuesday that would create a competitive grant program within the U.S. Department of Agriculture dedicated to the promotion of Community Supported Agriculture, which involves people paying for a share of a farm's produce.

The program would "award federal funds to non-profit organizations, extension services, and state and local government agencies to provide grower support – ranging from marketing and business assistance to crop development – to new or current CSA farmers, as well as assist in the development of innovative delivery and distribution programs," Gillibrand said in a statement.

4. Support Countywide 911 Event

The Volunteer Center of the United Way is helping to coordinate a countywide event commemorating the 10th anniversary of September 11th. The anniversary also will be recognized as a National Day of Service. On Sept. 9th, the Volunteer Center is asking people to participate in an event called "Serve and Learn: Westchester Remembers 9/11." The event will be a community-wide call to action devoted to volunteerism and public service.

Nonprofits in the area are being encouraged to register for an on-site booth at the event if they need volunteers and want to spread the word about their mission.

5. 3/50 Project—Pelham Chamber of Commerce

Join the Pelham Chamber of Commerce in supporting the 3/50 project, an initiative to uplift local businesses. According to the chamber, if half of the employed population spent $50 a month locally, it could reap billions of dollars in revenue for the local economy.
