The week ahead includes Mardi Gras, Presidents' Day and Valentine's Day. Celebrate and remember: 

Employment /Networking Support Group, Monday, February 11, 6:30 p.m. RDC Center for Counseling & Human Development, 52 N. Broadway, White Plains, NY. Free 6-Week Networking/Support Group for persons who have lost their jobs.  Each week a different topic related to employment will be discussed (Resume writing, Interviewing Skills, Using the Internet, Skills Assessment) through March 4. Mardi Gras Mask Making, Tuesday, February 12, 4:30 p.m. White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Ave., White Plains, NY. Celebrate "Carnival" and make fun & festive masks to wear. Mardi Gras (also known as Shrove Tuesday) marks the final day to party & eat sweets before the season of Lent. Music & refreshments will set the mood. For grades 3 - 6. Lecture about Assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Wednesday, February 13, 1 p.m. 897 S. Columbus Ave., Mount Vernon, NY, The day after Lincoln's birthday, a talk and discussion about the assassination of our 16th President, including an interesting link to St. Paul's Church. Effective Parent Participation in the CSE Process, Wednesday, February 13, 7:30 p.m. Pelham Middle School Information Center, 18 Franklin Pl., Pelham, NY. Pelham Special Education Parent Teacher Association hosts Naomi Brickel, director of the Hudson Valley Special Education Parent Center and the Transition Resource Center at the Westchester Institute for Human Development. The CSE process, from identifying a child’s needs to developing a plan to educate that child, can be a daunting task. Navigating it well and participating with confidence is important to your child’s educational future. Join us as Naomi unravels some of the issues and presents best practices for actively participating in the special education process. 

Coffee and Conversation: New Rochelle Commissioner of Public Works, Friday, February 15, 9:30 a.m. New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle, NY. The New Rochelle League of Women Voters Coffee and Conversation at the New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza, will return on Friday, February 15, at 9:30 a.m. Guest Alexander Tergis, Commissioner of Public Works, will discuss how his department is responding to the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, plans for handling future weather-related calamities, and other department challenges. The Public Works department's responsibilities include maintenance of all the city facilities, garbage and trash pickup, snow removal, street and tree maintenance.
