5 Things for the Week Ahead: Girl Scouts, Hindu Chants and Orchestra Tryouts

Five things you need to know for the week of March 5, 2012.

 

1. Naturalist Kate Murphy inside the , located on 455 Mamaroneck Rd, Scarsdale. This winter/spring program, which costs $15 to attend, gives children the opportunity to participate in crafts, stories, eco-dramas & games. There will be a brief outdoor walk that gives participants the opportunity to see what creatures and wildlife are surviving in the wild.

2. Barnes & Noble, located at 2614 Central Park Ave., Yonkers, A storytime and craft event will be hosted in the children's department of the bookstore. The event is free and open to the public.

3. Jean Havens, communications director for Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and a member of the American Association of University Women, at the Greenburgh Public Library entitled “Forever Green: Celebrating a Century of Girl Scouting and Beyond.” The talk is being held in anticipation of the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary on March 12. The library is located at 300 E. Main St., Elmsford. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

4. The New Westchester Symphony Orchestra is hosting open tryouts at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, inside the  , located at 216 Central Ave, White Plains. The New Westchester Symphony Orchestra is an amateur, non-audition orchestra that rehearses every week on Wednesdays in White Plains. Rehearsals are open to players of all abilities. 5. Singer Krishna Das and friends are performing in a at 7:30 p.m., Thursday inside the , which is located at 85 Main St, Irvington. Tibetan Home of Hope is a nonsectarian home and school for children who would otherwise be abandoned in Chinese-occupied Tibet. Tickets start at $40.
