5 Things for the Week Ahead: Pelham School Board, Pelville Assocation, "Machine Gun Preacher"

Five things you need to know for the weekend: Sept. 9—25, 2011.

1.) The Pelham school board is meeting on Monday, Sept.19 at the Library. The agenda includes approving goals for the 2011-2012 school year and committee appointments. The public session is expected to begin at 8 pm. The board will meet and go directly into executive session at 7:30 pm in the middle school conference room.

2.) The Pelville Association is meeting Monday, Sept. 19 at the  . Pelville is defined as the area south of Willow Avenue to the Pelham train station and the Hutchinson Parkway through Ninth Avenue.The purpose of the association is to promote and protect the rights and interests of the residents of Pelville, promote involvement in the civic affairs of the community and to represent the residents of the Pelville area and their concerns in relation to local government.

3.) in Pelham is presenting it’s Reel Insider feature “Machine Gun Preacher” on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The movie, which stars Gerard Butler, is based on the true story of Sam Childers, a former criminal who finds redemption by rescuing kidnapped children in war-torn Sudan.  A complimentary wine reception will be held at 7 p.m. prior to the screening. A question and answer discussion with Caryn James, an IndieWIRE critic, will take place following the screening. General admission tickets are $20, while tickets for seniors and students are $18. Tickets for Picture House members are $15.

4.) On Thursday, Sept. 22, is donating 10 percent of all proceeds from dinner to the Pelham Rotary’s “Gift of Life” program. Gift of Life is program that helps provide life saving cardiac surgeries to children all over the world. Bistro Rolllin’s event will take place from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

5.)  The National Council On Alcoholism & Drug Dependence/Westchester, Inc. and the Caron Treatment Centers is sponsoring a screening of “The Race to Nowhere” at 7 p.m. inside in Pelham.
