5 Things for the Week Ahead: Quilters, Musicians, Girl Scouts and Astronauts

Five things you need to know for the week of March 12, 2012

1.) Play an instrument but feel too self conscious to play in public? Well, “The Really Terrible Orchestra of Westchester” wants you anyway. The group, which is composed of music-loving adults of all skill levels, on the fifth floor of the ArtsWestchester Building, located at 31 Mamaroneck Ave in White Plains. All instruments are welcome.

2.) The New Rochelle Council on the Arts is holding the inaugural reception for the gallery  “Fabric of America - Quilting Our History” . The gallery will feature the work of the Pelham Quilters. The event will also feature quilt workshops and a book signing.

3.) The 40th annual /Bands Fund Raising Concert . Musicians will play compositions Lennon and McCartney, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis and Aaron Copland, Lennon & McCartney. Tickets cost $5 and are available at the door.

4.) inside Christopher J. Murphy Auditorium, located at 715 North Ave. in New Rochelle. The event, which is free, is being presented by the Westchester Amateur Astronomers and the Iona College Physics Department. Garan travelled 65,340,224 miles in 2,624 orbits around the Earth during the 164 days he was in space as a crewmember onboard the International Space Station. Seating is limited and registration is required.

5.) The Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson inside the . The evening includes live jazz entertainment by Ragan Whiteside and the Family, a silent auction, dinner, Girl Scout ceremony and a special Girl Scouts 100th birthday celebration. The gala will be hosted by Emmy-nominated CBS news correspondent Alexis Christofouros. Tickets to the gala cost $175.
