5 Things: Roots Rock, Brazilian Jazz and Fresh Produce

Five things to know for Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011.

1) "Brother Joscephus and the Love Revival Revolution Orchestra"  the Emil Paolucci Summer Sounds Concert Series 2011 at the   in New Rochelle, NY. The band is described as a 12-piece explosion of righteousness blending New Orleans party music, soul, jam-bandy roots rock and upbeat gospel. The event is free and open to the public.

2) Alive n' Kickin' will perform at Gramatan Ave. and Broad Street in Mount Vernon as part of Senator Jeff Klein's Annual Summer Concert Series. The concert will be held at the Mount Vernon Armory, located 144 North Fifth Ave., in the event of rain. The concert is free and open to the public.

3) The International Farmers' Market takes place at the intersection of Court Street  and Martine Avenue in White Plains from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market will provide a wide variety the fresh produce, baked good,s flowers, jams and more.

4) There will be a at St. Paul’s Church, located at  897 S. Columbus Ave. in Mount Vernon, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The performance will feature a bassoon and guitar.  The program also includes a tour of St. Paul's Church, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The program is free and open to the public.

5) This day in history: In 1991, Mikhail Gorbachev resigned as head of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
