5 Things to Put in Your Weekend Planner

So many events to choose from during New Rochelle's ArtsFest weekend.

New Rochelle ArtsFest will be in full swing this weekend, with many events for all to enjoy. What is listed below is only a few of many options. Please click here to see the full Saturday and Sunday schedules for New Rochelle ArtsFest '11.

Where/When:
, 20 Jones St., New Rochelle, Saturday, Sept. 24, 12:30-5:30 p.m.
Why Go: TransFORM Gallery has joined forces with local artists to help those in need. Participants will choose a bowl made by a local artist, which will be filled with soup donated by a local restaurant. A recommended donation may then be made, which will benefit HOPE Community Services. All who participate will get to keep the bowl.
Pricing: Donation.

Where/When:
, 265 Clove Rd., New Rochelle, Saturday, Sept. 24, 2-5:30 p.m.
Why Go: The Dance Theatre of Harlem will make a special appearance at New Rochelle High School's Linda Kelly Theater on Saturday. The ensemble will perform a “behind the scenes” glimpse into how the dances are choreographed from 2 to 3:15 p.m. After that, everyone is invited to watch the dancers in open rehearsals from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Why Go: An opening reception for Media Loft Gallery's latest exhibit, featuring the work of 19 artists on display.

Where/When: (Museum of Arts & Culture), 265 Clove Rd., New Rochelle, Saturday, Sept. 24, 12:30-5:30 p.m.
Why Go: New Rochelle’s Museum of Arts & Culture will host an opening reception for California-born artist Debra Hampton. Hampton, who is known for her multi-media collages, sculptures made from recycled materials and "intricate headdresses," also has work on display at the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent drawing collection.
Pricing: Free.

, (Ossie Davis Theater) 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle, Sunday, Sept. 25, 3-5 p.m.
Why Go: New Rochelle Opera is coming to the New Rochelle Public Library's Ossie Davis Theater—and audience members are encouraged to participate! New Rochelle Opera’s chorus mistress Georgianna Pappas will guide those who want to join in accompaniment, with lyrics provided.
Pricing: Free.
