Five Things for the Week Ahead: Modern Dance, Disney Classics and Rosh Hashana

5 things you need to know for the week of Sept. 26, 2011.

1.) The Paul Taylor II Dance Company, a group comprised of six dancers, will perform portions from the work of modern dance choreographer Paul Taylor on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at  Iona College,  located on 715 North Ave. in New Rochelle, NY. There is a $5 admission fee for the event, which begins at 5 p.m.

2.)  The Pelham Jewish Center is holding services for Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, on Thursday and Friday. The services are free, but donations are being accepted. Go here for a schedule of events or call (914) 738-6008.

3.) The Picture House in Pelham is showing the Walt Disney classic “Mary Poppins” Friday, at 3 p.m., and Saturday, at 1:30 p.m., on a 35mm print. General admission tickets cost $10 at the box office and $6 with and advanced purchase. Tickets cost $5 for Picture House members.

4.) On  Saturday, Oct.1,  the Pelham Art Center is hosting a free “Underwater Mosaic Art Workshop” in conjunction with its “The Ocean Reglitterized” exhibit at 1:30 p.m. Participants of all ages are invited to come to the art center and help create a large-scale mosaic with Lisa Vassalotti. The finished creation will be put on display at the art center.

5.) The 2nd Intergenerational Festival is taking place from noon to 4 p.m. at the “Meadow of The Wartburg” adult care community in Mount Vernon on  Saturday, Oct.1. The community is invited to bring their families to enjoy a host of activities including games, raffles, hands-on science experiments and face painting.
