Grab & Go Kids Planner: Summerfest, Butterflies and Boats that Float

Events and activities to keep your little ones amused over the upcoming weekend.

1. 
Where/When: 
Beczak Environmental Education Center, 35 Alexander St., Yonkers, Saturday, August 13, 2-8 p.m.
Why Go: Beczak's Summerfest will feature many fun activities, including 'catch of the day' seining from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., kayaking from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., a drum performance at 3 p.m., environmental rock band Solar Punch from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., a campfire with marshmallows at 7 p.m., art, games and more.
Pricing: 
Admission and activities are free. Barbecue, ice cream and raffle tickets will be available for reasonable fees.

 

2. 
Where/When: Wave Hill, W. 249th St. & Independence Ave., Bronx, Saturday, August 13, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
Why Go: Wave Hill offers free family art projects every Saturday in the Ecology Building. At this week's family art project, participants will have the chance to see and draw butterflies as they flutter about from flower to flower, and then make a butterfly hat to wear.
Pricing: Admission to the grounds is free on Saturdays until noon.

3. 
Where/When:
 The Science Barge, 99 Dock St., Yonkers, Sunday, August 14, 2-4 p.m.
Why Go: This workshop is part of the Science and Art Sundays on the Science Barge series. At this workshop, kids will get to build their own boat and then see if it floats. In addition, they will learn all about tides and the pull of the moon. Recommended for children ages 4-10.

Why Go: Visit Greenburgh Nature Center's live animal museum and find out what GNC's resident creatures are munching on.
Pricing: Free with museum admission.

5. 
Where/When:
 , Mamaroneck Ave. S. & E. Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck, Sunday, August 14, 7-9 p.m.
Why Go: Edgar Requilme and Friends will perform festive Latin music with a Peruvian harpist, St. Vito’s choir and dancers. This concert is part of Sundays in the Park With the Arts concert series. Bring blankets, lawn chairs and bug spray.

 Admission and parking are free.
