Patch Picks: Volunteering Your Time

Give back to the community at the places that can really use your help.

Pelham Art Center: This busy art center relies on volunteers year-round for a variety of tasks including: studio and office maintenance, art teacher’s assistants, planning gallery exhibitions, office support and seasonal event help. No prior art experience necessary, just an interest and enthusiasm for working at a local cultural center. Applications are accepted on a continual basis and are encouraged to email a cover letter and resume to info@pelhamartcenter.org

Junior League of Pelham: For 70 years, this has been devoted to enriching Pelham and its surrounding communities through education and service projects. Volunteers are especially needed for "Pelham Loves to Read", a project where funds are collected to support schools and libraries in need of new books and materials. JLP collaborates with other local organizations such as The Boys and Girls Club Backpack program and Family Services of Westchester’s Sharing Shelf program. Check out the JLP website for more information.

HOPE Community Soup Kitchen: Cook for the HOPE Community Soup Kitchen at the Huguenot Memorial Church. Diring its 20 year existence, HOPE has served more than 9 million meals, and continues to do so three evenings a week. No need for fancy pants Top Chef skills, by the way. Volunteers are only asked to commit to contributing every third Friday of the month. Contact Katie Kleiner for more information.

Pelham Youth Hockey: You don’t have to be a parent of an athlete to volunteer at the Pelham Youth Hockey Association. While assistant coaches are in high demand this season, so are managers, schedulers, publicity people and fundraisers.  Not sure you have the time? No problem- PYH encourages any amount of time commitment (even just an hour a week). Email questions, interests, and time commitment to pelhamhockeyinfo@yahoo.com.

The Pelham Fire Department: Those looking to volunteer in a public safety role should look no further than the local fire department. Volunteers are needed to assist with administrative tasks, fundraising, recruiting and coordinating community events such as: social gatherings, dinner cruises, holiday parties, parades, and street fairs. Contact Rick Striano, Volunteer Coordinator at  for more information.
