Pelham Police Collecting Prescription Drugs Today

The collection will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the Pelham and Pelham Manor police departments.

Residents will be able to take any prescription drugs they have in their possession today, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and hand them over to the and village police departments, no questions asked.

The event is being held in conjunction with the Pelham Pact Coalition as part of the U.S.  Drug Enforcement Administration's national prescription drug “Take Back Day."

Last year’s “Take Back Day” resulted in hundreds of tons of prescription drugs being turned in for proper disposal by the DEA.

About 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time each day, according to the DEA.  This fact, coupled with the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses illustrates the importance of ensuring unused prescription drugs are properly destroyed.
