A New Rochelle Man has plead guilty to three Pelham robberies that happened back in January and February of 2012. Oliver Famby, 19, went on an armed robbery spree in other communities as well. Today, Famby admitted to 10 felonies and two misdemeanors.

The New Rochelle man pled guilty today to a total of nine counts of first degree robbery and one count of second degree assault, all felony charges.  He also pled guilty to fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon and fifth degree criminal possession of a stolen weapon, both misdemeanors.

Famby was charged in connection with eight robberies that occurred in January-April of 2012 in the Town and Village of Mamaroneck, Pelham, New Rochelle and Harrison.

On routine patrol, Pelham police came across Famby sitting in his car dressed in black, with a .32 caliber handgun which was later found to be stolen, black gloves, black mask and black boots in plain view on April 27, 2012.

“Alert policing by a police officer on routine patrol ended a robbery spree targeting Westchester commuters that was becoming increasingly more violent,” said District Attorney Janet DiFiore in a statement. “Although some of the robberies occurred late at night, others were in the evening with the victims walking home from train stations, emphasizing why one should always be mindful of their surroundings and not focused on texting or talking on the phone.”

Famby will be sentenced on July 16; he faces up to 25 years in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Strongin of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
