Maya Caballero Plays at First Friday!

Step back in time on September 6 when unique singer-songwriter Maya Caballero brings her whimsical 1920's ragtime/Dixieland style to Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum’s First Friday!Caballero’s music has flavors of bossa nova, folk, and blues—influences from her travels between France and the Southwest.

First Friday! return performer and favorite, Maya is currently preparing for the release of her first album, recorded in Tucson, Arizona at Water Works and Loveland Studios with Calexico, Salvador Duran, Thoger Lund, Naim Amor, and Marco Rosano. Two songs on the album, All Roads Lead to Here and beni, are featured on the soundtrack for the indie filmWhite Boy Brown. Additionally, you can hear her on the albums of Toby Goodshank (The Moldy Peaches), Pimps of Joytime, Soft Black, Alex Chappo, and Brian Hullfish (Missing Parts). 

Maya has been interviewed on TV & radio shows from Toulouse to Tucson and in Los Angeles, Washington DC, and New York, her hometown, where she appeared on East Village Radio and Rock Chicks Live on CBS Radio, NYC.

Active in humanitarian work, Maya has performed many fundraisers, including an HIV/AIDS benefit for the children of Hardthaven orphanage in Ghana, The Water Project Festival in Tucson, the LSU Scholarship Fundraiser at Chelsea Piers, and for The Rosa Parks Institute in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

In addition to enjoying the music, visitors can see the opening of the new exhibition, A Gardener’s Library: Vintage Books from the Bartow-Pell Collection, explore the mansion, stroll the newly restored garden, and partake of light refreshments from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The free Bronx Seaside Trolley makes a continuous loop from the Bx29 bus stop at Pelham Bay Park/#6 Pelham Bay Park subway station to Bartow-Pell and to City Island.
