Sixth Annual Mount Vernon Relay for Life Set for Friday

The Mount Vernon Relay for Life is scheduled to take place Friday, June 15 at 7 p.m. at the Mount Vernon High School track, located at 100 California Road Mount Vernon.

More than 500 people are expected to camp overnight at the track, sell food, crafts, and merchandise to raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.

There will also be a luminaria service, a candlelight vigil held at nightfall to honor survivors and to remember those lost to cancer. The candles are left burning throughout the night as a reminder to participants the importance of their involvement in the Relay For Life event.

“Relay For Life brings cancer survivors, their caregivers, and their community together so that no one has to face this battle alone,” said Kerry Wong, Manager of Relay For Life in Mt. Vernon. “It’s a great opportunity to come together to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. It enables us to celebrate and honor cancer survivors and their caregivers, remember those lost to the disease and fight back with the shared belief that cancer will be one day be eliminated.”
