E-Readers Have Nook at Pelham Library

E-readers are popular option at Pelham Library.

As if the library wasn't awesome enough, did you know you can check out e-readers pre-loaded with great titles? Or use your own e-reader to access hundreds of titles for loan?

Since April, Pelham Library has had a hit on its hands with the half-dozen NOOK e-readers it has available for loan.

Each of the six readers, acquired at a discount by members of the Westchester Library System from Barnes & Noble bookseller, have a set of titles already saved into their memories.

The e-readers are preloaded with 6 themes: romance; fiction and thrillers; travelogues and memoirs; history and biographies; New York Times best 25 novels of the 20th century; and mysteries.

In addition to being portable, Pelham Library circulation librarian Kathleen Egan said the e-readers have been a great introduction for readers accustomed to paper and ink.

"This is a great way to get familiar with the e-reader technology," said Egan.

Borrowers can use the e-readers for three weeks and sign a contract agreeing to cover any damage. The readers cannot not be returned in the drop box.

The library keeps a waiting list for the e-readers.

Said Egan, "We'll probably get more, they've been very popular."

For those with their own e-readers, tablets and compatible smartphones, there are thousands of titles available for loan through the Overdrive database. Westchester Library System, as well as New York Public Library, patrons can access the system. Go to the Westchester Library Overdrive page

Overdrive supports iPads, Kindles, NOOK readers and personal computers and laptops, as well as android and blackberry based smartphones.
