Final Farewell for Pelham's Lenny Loizzo

Lenny Loizzo, who graduated from Pelham High School, was one of Mount Vernon's Finest.


Lenny Loizzo has died after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Loizzo graduated from Pelham High School and went on to be a police officer with Mount Vernon's Finest. Loizzo's dedication to police work always signaled his professionalism to everyone. Loizzo is said to be one of the toughest men you would ever meet, but he had the gentlest of hearts.

At the time of his death, at age 57, Loizzo was living in Carmel. He was born to Gloria Bersito and the late Leonardo Loizzo back in 1955.

Loizzo was the beloved son of Gloria Bersito and step-son of Nunzio Lipari; loving father of Nicole (Gerard) Taliercio; his step-sons Joseph (Rachel) Salamone and Robert Salamone; his grandchildren Kyle and Isabella Salamone; his sisters MaryAnne (James) Palmer and Patricia (Lenard) Egelston. Also survived by loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral mass will be held today at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mount Vernon at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
