Obituary: US Marine Corps Veteran, Larry W. Foy, age 72

Larry W. Foy, Marine Corps veteran and first African-American on Pelham Police force, age 72, died on April 28th.

Larry W. Foy 72, of Burton, SC, beloved husband of Dora Allen Foy, died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born November 14, 1940 in Bronxville, Foy was the son of the late James H. and Elaine Terry Foy.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Foy was a retired Police Officer with the Pelham Police Department and both the department's first African-American hired and the its first African-American sergeant. 

During his 20 year tenure with the Police Dept, Foy coordinated youth programs and fundraising efforts toward that end. May 1st 1987 was named "Larry W. Foy Day" by the Mayor of Pelham. Foy was active in the Masonic Order and the Elks of New Rochelle, and was a devoted Yankees Fan.

Foy is survived by his wife, Dora Allen Foyare, and three children, Larry A. Foy (Dionne) of Douglasville, GA, Dawn Foy of Bronx, NY and Glenda Foy of Beaufort, SC; a sister, Mary Foy Pleasant of Clover, VA; four grandchildren, one step-grandchild and other relatives.

Funeral Services were held on May 2nd at New Hope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Burton, SC. Foy was buried in Beaufort National Cemetery with Military Honors.
