Car Break-In Supect Tasered after Foot Pursuit

Keita Speed, 43, of New Rochelle, is scheduled to appear in Pelham town court on April 12.

Pelham police are trying to determine if a man who was allegedly caught rummaging through an unlocked vehicle last week is responsible for a number of other car break-ins that have taken place the past few weeks.

Police arrested Keita Speed, 43, of Pelham, and charged him with third-degree criminal trespass, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and attempted larceny, all misdemeanors, early Thursday.

At about 1:46 a.m., police received a call from a resident on Eighth  Avenue that someone was rummaging through their vehicle vehicle light. Speed allegedly ran off and hid when police arrived at the scene.

While police were patrolling the area, they spotted Speed running through a yard on Ninth Avenue and heading north toward Vaughn Avenue.

Speed made his way east on Vaughn Avenue, where an officer tried to take him down with a Taser. The Taser malfunctioned and Speed was able to escape.

Police eventually caught  Speed in a yard located on Glenwood Place in New Rochelle and shot him with a Taser.

Speed was arraigned and remanded to Westchester County Jail with bail set at $2,500. He is scheduled to appear in Pelham town court on April 12.

Police are investigating whether Speed was involved in any other recent car break-ins. The Village of Pelham has had and police believe Speed may have been responsible for some of them.

Correction: An earlier version of this story had the wrong court date for Keita.
