Update: Enraged Female Strikes Pelham Manor Police Officer

An angered motorist slashes a Pelham Manor cop with her handcuffs

A Pelham Manor woman got into a fender bender with a police officer early Friday morning and struck the police officer with her handcuffs after getting arrested, according to Pelham Manor police.

The accident occurred at 7:45 a.m. on Friday in the parking lot across the street from the Pelham Manor Police Station during roll call. Ellen S. Rosenfeld, 52, became enraged after Officer Atkins asked her to wait until roll call was completed. Rather than wait, the woman tried to gain access to the secure desk area within the station.

Her frustration mounted when she was asked to produce her driver’s license--which she didn't have--and vehicle registration for the police report. The woman asked to go home to get her license, but Atkins said she would not be able to leave until she had given all of the information he needed to file a police report.

The situation became heated when the woman started firing insults at the police officer. The woman got into her car and started yelling and cursing, which was when Atkins called for backup.

The woman continued belting out profanity to the officers, and she was repeatedly asked to lower her voice. As a result of her continued noncompliance, she was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Still, the woman refused to get out of the car. While the officers tried to remove her from the vehicle, the woman leaned back against her seat, so as to make it more challenging for them. The officers offered her an ultimatum: Get out of the vehicle or get doused with pepper spray.

Once the woman exited the vehicle, the officers tried to handcuff her. But the woman was once again recalcitrant. She bit Officer Atkins on the left arm and tried to fall to the ground. Once the officers managed to secure one handcuff, the woman lashed out that arm and struck Officer Atkins in the forehead. He suffered a gash and started bleeding profusely. The female was finally subdued and brought into the police station to be processed.

Paramedics were called to the scene to help the injured officer who was brought to Sound Shore Medical Center for further treatment.

The woman is currently awaiting arraignment.
