Man Charged in Shooting of Lake Katonah Neighbor

New York State police troopers are investigating a shooting on Sunnyridge Road in Katonah.

A Lewisboro man faces felony assault charges after he allegedly fired gunshots at his neighbor's back Thursday night on Sunnyridge Road in Goldens Bridge.

State police said the female victim, 55, received non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Northern Westchester Hospital and released last night.

Richard Wilson, 77, was taken to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, following his arraignment in Lewisboro Town Court. Wilson was charged with second-degree assault, a D felony, according to State Police Senior Investigator Patrick Bosley.

"At this point it's unclear what his motive was," Bosley told Patch. "We don't know what their relationship was, if there was any kind of dispute or problems between the two."

He said the incident took place at about 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

The victim told police that she was in front of her house getting ready to enter the front door when she heard "popping noises" and felt a sharp sting on the back of her head. She ran into her house and called for help.

State troopers and officers responded quickly, Bosley said. The road has a Katonah postal address but is located within the town of Lewisboro.

After determining the safety of the victim, investigators searched the area and located Wilson and his car about three hours later in the Goldens Bridge shopping plaza. They searched his home and found a "large volume" of firearms, including two unregistered handguns, and a stash of ammunition.

The bullets which struck the victim came from a ".22 caliber projectile," according to Bosley, and may have come from either a handgun or rifle.

Wilson is due for an appearance in Somers Town Court on June 11.

The investigation is open and anyone with information or any witnesses who were in the area should call (914) 277-3177.
