Mount Vernon Man Pleads Guilty to Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend

Green was caught in Pelham last year, days after the stabbing

A Mount Vernon man faces 25 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to stabbing his ex-girlfriend with a kitchen knife last year.

The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office announced that Jonathan Green, 39, of Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree attempted murder, which is a Class B felony.

Green stabbed the woman in front of Greater Centennial Church, located at 311 South 8th Ave., on Aug. 3 2011. The attack happened as the woman was leaving gospel choir pratice.

Authorities said Green stabbed the 53-year-old woman multiple times with a kitchen knife, before it broke off and remained lodged in her back. Green fled the scene, but he was eventually caught in Pelham on Aug. 5.

The woman was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where she was treated for her injuries.

Green left the victim threatening cell phone messages prior to the attack, according to the district attorney’s office.

Green’s sentencing is scheduled for May 9.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Amy Puerto, an assistant district attorney and the deputy chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau.
