New Rochelle Firefighter's Funeral Set, Stamford Officials to Hold Press Conference Wednesday

The funeral for New Rochelle Firefighter Keith Morris has been set for Saturday at Holy Name Church in New Rochelle. Morris died Sunday night after the boat he was on crashed on the Long Island Sound in Stamford, Conn.

The funeral for Keith Morris, a New Rochelle firefighter who died during a boating accident in Stamford, Conn. Sunday night, has been set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the in New Rochelle.

Morris was one of five people who in a boat that around midnight overnight near the Stamford Lighthouse.

Four people in the boat were recovered from the water by emergency response crews and divers. Two were pulled from the water by the first-arriving police marine units and two others trapped underneath the boat itself were pulled from the waters by divers from a Stamford fire boat.

Morris was found Moday when authorities located his body 58 feet below the surface in the Long Island Sound. A medical examiner ruled that the cause of his death was an accidental drowning.

Stamford public safety officials have scheduled a press conference tomorrow morning to go go over the details the investigation.

Morris was a firefighter for the New Rochelle Fire Department for more than eight years.

"We just told the family that we'll do our best to comply with whatever their wishes are," New Rochelle Fire Chief Lou DiMeglio said.

DiMeglio said efforts have been made to reach out to firefighters who knew Morris well and worked with him closely.

"We told them that we have resources available if they need them," DiMeglio said. "But, as of now, those resources aren't being utilized."

Morris is survived by his parents, Stephen and Linda; his brother, Drew; his sister, Shae; his paternal grandmother Jeanne Morris; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visiting hours for Morris will be held Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc., located 16 Shea Pl. in New Rochelle.

His burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
