New Rochelle Man Found Guilty in Machete Slaying

A jury found Akeem Lindsay, 32, guilty of murdering his girlfriend last year during a dispute.

 

A New Rochelle man was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend during a machette attack in his home last year, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced today.

A jury found Akeem Lindsay , 32, of 309 North Avenue in New Rochelle, guilty of one count of second-degree murder;  a count of first-degree attempted assault; a count of second-degree assault; and a count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon for the murder of Lisa Stabler, 29.

He faces a maximum prison sentence of 47 years in prison.

On Feb. 11, 2011, just before midnight, , New Rochelle police responded to a call  from a neighbor at 309 North Avenue.

When police arrived, they saw Lindsay covered in blood in a hallway inside an apartment. Lindsay was being restrained by another man when police arrived and the man told police that Lindsay murdered his girlfriend.

A woman who witnessed the attack told police that she had taken a machete from Lindsay and put it under a mattress. Officers entered a bedroom in the apartment and located Stabler, who was unresponsive.

Lindsay  was transported  to a hospital for treatment of a cut on his hand. A search warrant was also executed and the machete was located.

Lindsay was arrested and told police that he argued with Stabler and struck her several times with the machete while chasing her through the apartment.

Lindsay’s sentencing is scheduled for  July 25, 2012.  

Senior Assistant District Attorney Laura Murphy of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Shameika Mathurin of the Career Criminal Bureau prosecuted the case.
