Officials Investigate Body Found Floating in Hudson

Members of the New York State Park Police and the Cold Spring Fire Department were on the scene.

Following a kayaker's discovery Wednesday morning, police say the remains of a white, 30- to 40-year-old man will undergo an autopsy at the Putnam Hospital Center.

According to a press release from the , the kayaker came across the naked body floating in the Hudson River around 9:30 a.m. near Constitution Island in Cold Spring. The individual contacted officials from the United States Military Academy at West Point. They sent a boat out to the scene and notified Putnam authorities.

"Members of the Sheriff’s Marine Unit, along with uniformed patrol deputies and investigators responded to the area," the release reads. "Deputies recovered the body and brought it ashore."

Dr. William Stahl of the Putnam County Coroner’s Office pronounced the victim, who is described as having salt-and-pepper hair, dead.

An autopsy is expected to yield a cause of death. New York State Park Police and officials from the sheriff's office are continuing the investigation.
